O Captain! My Captain!
Critical analysis
Walt Whitman is American poet who wrote this bombastic poem to explore the journey of American Civil War. This beautiful poem is Elegy which portrays the clear picture of American President struggles whose name is Abraham Linkolen. This poem is written and published in 1865. Walt Whitman uses ship as a metaphor . In whole poem ,he tributes the struggles of Abraham Linkolen who faces many pains to win the war , ship in this poem is America and Captain of ship is Abraham.
Public of America welcomes the ship who faces many storms inside sea whivh demonstrates the view of Civil War. Captain of ship is dead when the nation won the War and public welcomed the captain in their contest. But mourning was for all where Captain was lying cold , No one can talk with captain .
Structure of poem is consisting of 3 stanzas , every stanza having four lines called quadrants . He uses free verse style without following ryhme and mostly uses iambic pentameter and first line of poem is Hexameter.
He uses Anophora O Captain !My Captain! in this poem . Whitman also gives allusion to United states.He also uses lyrical sounds in this poem .

Themes in this poem are victory, struggle and joy with pain .He explains that people with loss of their Captain are joy that their country won the war although struggles came to the victory with huge loss . Another main theme is that he is paying atribute to Abraham Lincoln.
To cap up the whole discussion we can say that Walt whitman in this poem pays tribute to his hero in 1865 and made his poem as a master piece of his writings and many other poets wrote about Lincoln sacrifice for American's and this poem stands Unique among all .
